Hometown Huntsville: Coffee Shops // Part 2
Travel Patterns is certainly a global company, however, now with a brick and mortar we are also a local company. One of the best things about our local community is how well they support small businesses and we are honored to now be a part in such a tangible way. We wanted to do our part to support some of Huntsville’s amazing local businesses which is why we are launching a new series we are calling “Hometown Huntsville”. Every post will focus on one industry here in Huntsville and the businesses that are knocking it out of the park. This is Part Two of exploring our favorite coffee shops in town. You can read Part One here.
Angel’s Island Coffee - South Huntsville
Location: 7538 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL 35802
An oasis in the middle of South Huntsville, Angel’s Island will be a place that you will want to come and stay awhile.
What We Love: Angel’s Island has been around for 13 years and we love how important they have become to the South Huntsville Community. They regularly host events, such as open mic nights, and they are constantly showcasing local artists. We also love their fun tropical mural and bright orange exterior that are perfectly Instagram-able!
Our Order: There are many delicious things to order from Angel’s Island but our favorite is an iced caramel macchiato or vanilla latte!
Pro-Tip: If you are looking for a place to nestle in for a good book, getting work done, or studying, Angel’s Island is our favorite spot. The atmosphere is always peaceful and quiet — it truly is the perfect place to escape for a getaway, even if it is only a couple of hours!
The Greenroom Coffee Shop - MidCity District
Location: 5909-A University Dr, Huntsville, AL 35806
Found at The Camp at MidCity, The Greenroom is the perfect spot for a date night while you enjoy love music or an afternoon treat as you explore their Sunday afternoon Farmer’s Market.
What We Love: The menu at The Greenroom is always changing to feature the freshest ingredients and their coffee is roasted in Huntsville. We also love that the shop is housed in two up-cycled shipping containers and that it is so close to some of our favorite restaurants and activities in MidCity.
Our Order: Head to The Greenroom in the afternoon to grab a Cold Brew and their Curried Chickpea Salad Wrap for a light lunch.
Pro-Tip: There isn’t much seating at Greenroom but if you can find a time that isn’t too busy, their upstairs patio is the perfect place to enjoy some sun while sipping an iced latte!
Piper & Leaf x Constitution Park - Downtown Huntsville
Location: 109 Gates Ave SE, Huntsville, AL 35801
While it’s not coffee, we couldn’t miss adding this artisan tea company to our list! Piper & Leaf have 3 locations in the Huntsville area, but their Constitution Park location is our favorite.
What We Love: Piper & Leaf brings an artisan touch to a southern staple — sweet tea. With unique twists to traditional tea blends like Sweetie Pie Chai and Lemon Berry Blush, they have something for everyone! We also love that they are a family-run business and you can purchase their tea bags and loose leaf blends in many of the local grocery stores and coffee shops. As a bonus, if you are looking for some coffee, Piper & Leaf now offers La-Teas — coffee mixed with any of their teas and served either hot or iced!
Our Order: Our favorite for the summer is an iced Front Porch Special, their take on the classic southern sweet tea. When it starts getting cooler, we love an Old-Fashion Birthday Cake served hot, their signature twist on the traditional Earl Grey.
Pro-Tip: If you are wanting to try Piper & Leaf, we definitely suggest getting your tea in one of their signature mason jars. They are great to use at home and you can also bring the jar back for a discount on your next iced tea refill!
Dark.Side Coffee - North Huntsville
Locations: 2007 Memorial Pkwy NW, Huntsville, AL 35810
As one of the newest coffee shops in Huntsville, Dark.Side has come to the North side of the city to serve delicious coffee and sandwiches, as well as give back to the local community.
What We Love: Not only is the shop owned and operated by Huntsville natives, but they also donate 5% of all proceeds to directly support North Huntsville Initiatives. We also love they have extended hours to cater to the late night crowd and those needing a place to study or get work done after regular business hours.
Our Order: You will not want to miss their Dark.Side Mocha or their Keith Grilled Cheese.
Pro-Tip: Dark.Side is the perfect place to meet a friend for coffee! Through the week it is rarely busy but if you stop by on a weekend you might have a bit of a wait.
Take Heart. Take Flight.
