Product Feature: Colotenango Collection
When our founder, Lauren, started Travel Patterns she asked the question, “How do we take indigenous textiles and incorporate them into everyday life?” This question has become one of the main focuses of our business as we design products and seek out artisan partners in communities around the World. Our goal is to bring indigenous textiles into your modern lives and homes in a way that highlights your style and preserves the tradition of handicrafts around the world. We want to help you to bring the world home which is why we have worked hard to feature many different textiles in our Travel Pattern line of home goods and travel accessories.
Colotenango is a mountain village close to the Guatemala-Mexico border, and the inspiration for our pattern with its namesake. The textiles from this region are recognizable by the use of maroon, red and orange linear designs. The intermingling stripes are splashed with an array of colorful geometric shapes, which are created using a shuttle-weaving technique resulting in intricate brocaded details that draw you deeper into this traditional design.
Not only is our Colotenango Collection the hardest to pronounce, it’s the most complicated to weave. Our weaving partners from Pixan employ one hundred and fifty incredibly talented weavers, but only seven of those weavers can craft the brocaded details from the region that inspired this pattern.
We love this pillow collection because of the fun colors and patterns that can easily be the main attraction of a room. Our 18x18 pillow would look perfect in a living room or back patio for the summer. We also love styling our 14x36 lumbar pillow on a fluffy bed with lots of mixing and matching.
Currently our Colotenango Collection of pillows is only available in our brick & mortar shop in Huntsville, AL. However, we plan to have them featured in the online store very soon!
